Wilfred Genee is back from Curaçao and is sitting on the talking chair. About Renze Klamer, about the criticism of the VI broadcasts from the island, and about his own future. “What does sentiment become?”
Freshly back from Curaçao, Wilfred looks at Genee in conversation The Telegraph back on the island edition of Today Inside. He parries the criticism he did read, and reveals something about his own future and that of Renze Klamer, who will have his own talk show on RTL 4 this fall. Wilfred believes in his talent, but has a caveat.
Sentiment
Renze makes quite a false start: RTL Tonight disappears to make room for him, and Beau van Erven Dorens and Humberto Tan emphatically stated that they were not happy about that. They have publicly portrayed Renze as some kind of size-monger. They later relented, but that image still lingers in some people’s minds.
When asked whether he expects Renze to soon become a major competitor of VI, Wilfred answers: “Given the talent he has, yes. But I don’t know what the sentiment around him will be. We have to rely on our own strength.”
Staff outing
The strength of VI is still the regular trio that comments on current affairs, but after René van der Gijp, Wilfred Genee also wants to slow down for an evening. “That is not a priority now. But I certainly notice that an interview program like this gives energy on the side. I feel like the last few years have gone by very quickly,” he says.
He continues: “Maybe it’s the idea that I haven’t made the best yet that gives me the drive to keep making things that I like.”
Thomas there?
Could VI be just as strong with Thomas van Groningen regularly appearing at the top of the table? “I think he is absolutely successful. He should continue to put in good flying hours. I am not worried at all in terms of talent.”
Finally: can Wilfred imagine that he will eventually alternate with Renze at his previous employer RTL? “That is absolutely not in Frage. We are under contract for another year after this. At the moment I am satisfied with SBS6.”
