Helsingin Sanomat revealed A former player of Kuopio Palloseura suspected of giving false information about rape Souleymane Soumahoron from the past.
KuPS announced in March that they had signed 18-year-old Soumahoro to the team. The press release stated that Soumahoro will arrive in Kuopio from the Danish club FC Nordsjælland.
HS contacted the Danish club, who replied that they have never even heard of the player in question.
– I have never heard of this player. I would advise you to contact Right to Dream with your questions, the club’s spokesperson replied to HS by email.
Sports director of KuPS Sixten Boström says that the player’s agent offered him to the Kuopio club.
– When the players come on the screen, at that point we don’t have to dig too hard to find out what they have done in Africa, for example, Boström tells HS.
KuPS has updated the content of the bulletin it published in March After the article published by Helsingin Sanomat. In the press release, a section has been edited that tells about Soumahoro’s club history.
– The news previously said that the player belonged to FC Nordsjælland’s academy organization. The player has previously belonged to the Right to Dream academy organization. Right to Dream’s organization also includes FC Nordsjælland, which led to the erroneous mention of FC Nordsjælland’s academy organization in the news. The player moved to Kuopio Palloseura from Denmark through the Right to Dream organization, and he had a residence permit in Denmark before moving to Finland, the editing text reads.
Soumahoro is suspected of three counts of rape and sexual assault. He was imprisoned by the decision of the district court of Pohjois-Savo on Friday, May 29.
KuPS terminated Soumahoro’s contract due to criminal suspicions.
KuPS’s lawyer Matti Reinikainen according to him, the “other things” that happened between Soumahoro and the club would have been enough in themselves to terminate the contract. The criminal suspicion was the “last straw” for the club.
Charges must be filed in the case by the end of August, unless Soumahoro is released before then.
