Ecoalf improves B Corp Score and climbs to the top

In 2018, the sustainable fashion label Ecoalf was the first Spanish fashion brand to receive B Corp certification with an impact score of 81.8. Just three years later, the company was able to improve its overall rating to 99.1, leading the European fashion market.

The B-Corp certification means that companies must meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance. They must also adopt public transparency and legal responsibility to strike a balance between profit and the purpose for which the company was founded.

“We continuously rely on innovations in order to develop collections that are becoming increasingly environmentally friendly. It’s not just about what we do, but how we do it … because there is no Planet B, ”said Carol Blázquez, Ecoalf’s head of innovation and sustainability, in a press release.

Five key areas of B Corp certification

B Corp certified companies are reassessed every three years based on five key areas: corporate governance, ethics, accountability and transparency; The company’s contribution to the financial, physical, professional and social well-being of its employees or to the economic and social well-being of the communities in which it operates; its entire environmental management with regard to climate, water use and sustainability as well as the value that a company achieves for its customers, for example through positive marketing and quality assurance.

“Each of these areas is an important factor in not being the biggest fashion brand in the world, but the best for the planet,” said Ecoalf.

This means that Ecoalf not only leads the top ten B Corp certified companies, but is also at the forefront of the European fashion industry in terms of sustainability efforts.
