Central defender Marc Guéhi was almost a Liverpool FC player last summer before Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner vetoed it. In 2026, the third most valuable footballer in the world will leave the Londoners for free with his contract expiring and FC Bayern will be involved. According to “Sky” information, Bayern sports director Max Eberl recently met with Guéhi’s advisors. If transferred, he would be Munich’s most valuable free transfer signing since Robert Lewandowski in 2014.

Guéhi is advised by Unique Sports Group, which represents Malick Thiaw (Newcastle), Hakan Çalhanoğlu (Inter) and Noah Atubolu (Freiburg), among others. Glasner confirmed that the England international wants to take the next step: “Marc has already informed us that he will not sign a new contract and will therefore leave next year.” In addition to Bayern, Real Madrid and Liverpool FC are also said to be interested in Guéhi.

A strange situation could arise, because the most valuable professionals with expiring contracts, Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konaté, are playing in Munich and Liverpool of all places. As a result, Guéhi could join both the Reds and Bayern as a free transfer replacement. Or the Royal team will once again win the race with their charisma, having brought in David Alaba from Munich, Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea, Kylian Mbappé from PSG and Trent Alexander-Arnold from LFC since 2021. All top-class players with contracts that were expiring at the time.

Bayern are also known for signing up for free transfer players. This was the case last summer with Jonathan Tah (Bayer 04) and Tom Bischof (Hoffenheim). The fact that they do not appear in the list of the most valuable free transfer additions is because the Munich team paid a small transfer fee in order to be able to have the duo at the Club World Cup early. Just like Real did with Alexander-Arnold. The current squad includes three professionals, Leon Goretzka (Schalke), Konrad Laimer (Leipzig) and Raphaël Guerreiro (BVB), who moved for free with a high market value. The fourth is Alexander Nübel (Schalke), who is waiting at VfB Stuttgart to become Bayern’s number one.

With a market value of 50 million euros, Guéhi, along with Lewandowski, would be the record champions’ most valuable free transfer signing. When the world footballer came from BVB in 2014, he had a market value of 50 million euros and Lewandowski also knew early on where his journey would take him. Should Guéhi choose Bayern, he could sign a contract on January 1st, 2026, which will be valid from July 1st. Whether he will play alongside Upamecano, with whom the contract poker has been dragging on for months, or take his place will probably also depend on Real Madrid.
