A bowl of pudding, a fork and fun. Dozens of young people gathered in the Urban Sportpark in Eindhoven on Thursday afternoon for a very special activity: eating pudding with a fork. The pudding event was organized by 15-year-old David Geicu, who called for participation via TikTok. “It’s really pudding and very forking,” says one boy as he pokes the dessert with his fork.

The pudding trend spread from Karlsruhe, Germany and is no longer just about the food itself. It’s also about coming together and meeting new people.

“Okay, now we’re going to countdown to eating pudding with a fork,” David shouts to the group, which consists mainly of young people. “3, 2, 1.” Then it begins: the containers are opened and the first bites of pudding disappear into the mouth.

For some it is a spontaneous action. “I had nothing to do today, so I thought, ‘We’re going to eat pudding with a fork,'” says one boy. “I think it’s fun.” Another added: “I was sitting at home and had nothing to do. I saw it on TikTok, jumped in the shower and sent him a message. This is something more fun than sitting at home. I will eat this more often, but I don’t know if I will do this with a fork more often.”

“Look around you, people are talking to each other.”

Not everyone stuck to pudding, by the way. One man brought custard. “Pudding is for beginners with a fork. Custard is a little more difficult, so that’s also a fun challenge for tonight.” Another boy didn’t really appreciate the pudding: “Give me a nice piece of cake. That might be the next idea. Eating cake with a spoon.” Someone else simply calls it ‘very forky’.

For many attendees, it is mainly about being together. “It makes it a tastier pudding if everyone eats together. People always say: ‘The youth don’t know what solidarity is’. But look around you, people are talking to each other,” says a young woman.

Whether the pudding was tasty or not, the atmosphere was good. And according to David, that is exactly the intention. “Eating pudding with a fork is the best thing ever,” he jokes afterwards. “It’s more about having fun, getting together and meeting new people.” The next TikTok challenge? Eating soup with a fork.
