Duo takes corpse to post office in attempt to claim his pension | Abroad

A very gruesome incident at the post office in Carlow, a town in the south east of Ireland: two guys showed up at the counter on Friday morning supporting a corpse. Apparently their intention was to collect the deceased man’s pension in this way.

A staff member immediately noticed that the elderly person’s face looked very gray. When he started asking tough questions, the two dropped the corpse and fled.

The victim turned out to be a man in his 70s who lived nearby. Peadar Doyle probably died of natural causes, but an autopsy has yet to determine this. Police have launched a manhunt for the duo.

hat on the head

One of the perpetrators had already come by before, asking if he could collect the man’s pension. However, he was then told that the money could only be paid out to Doyle himself. No one was allowed to do that in his place.

Moments later, Doyle actually showed up, but there was no life in it. The woolly sweater over his head and the hat on his head only made the situation more suspicious. “We’re going to take him to the hospital as soon as we have the money,” one of them said. So in vain…

“Victim never hurt anyone”

The daughter of a neighbor initially thought that the man had become unwell. “His feet dragged on the ground as he was carried into that post office,” said The Irish Independent.

The mayor could hardly find words to describe his grief. “Normally there is a line in that post office to the outside. I was in shock when I heard what had happened. It’s unbelievable that someone could do something like that,” said Ken Murnane. Councilor Fergal Byrne finally described the victim as a “kind man who would never harm anyone”.
