The ballot boxes are closed, the entries are in: the Drentse 1000 can (almost) start. The official starting shot of the music list sounds on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. Then, glued to the radio for seven days, comes the redemption: who is number 1 this year?
Last year this honor was for Daniël Lohues with Here I Come Away for some the song of Drenthe after the promotion of FC Emmen to the highest level. But there are – at the top or bottom of the list – many other songs with a special story.
“This time made my voice a bit easier,” writes Selian van de Zwaag on Facebook. She goes for Henny Vrienten, Olivia Newton and ‘the song of Peter R. de Vries’, by which she undoubtedly refers to A Whiter Shade of Pale by the British band Procol Harum. “Last year I really couldn’t choose”, the Drachtster remembers.
More people from outside the province managed to find the ballot box for the Drenthe 1000. “Even though I’m not from Drenthe but from Groningen, I’m happy to put my favorite songs in the list and maybe hear them,” Harrie Jager responds. “Last year I followed it while I was on Tenerife. This year I’m at home in Drenthe. But it will turn on again”, Ed Post is delighted.
“I have already filled in my list”, says Assenaar Johann Steenge. “Isa Black with I remember on 1. By the way, an artist is twice in my list, and that’s Leon Moorman.”
