‘Drama on track at Pesse in which 18-year-old lost life is fatal accident’ | Inland

The collision took place around 10 p.m. at Kerkweg in Fluitenberg near Pesse. The railway crossing where the fatal collision took place has half barriers that close the road in each direction of travel. There are also alarm signals and red flashing lights warn traffic when a train is approaching. “We looked in our systems and it also showed that the level crossing was working as it should at the time of the drama,” says Van Kranenburg.

The level crossing type offers the option of ‘slaloming between the barriers’. The police are still investigating and, according to a spokeswoman, they also assume an accident for the time being. “But from what we now know from our own internal investigation, the victim made a dramatically wrong estimate,” said ProRail’s spokesman. He therefore speaks of a “very sad and fatal accident for all involved”.
