The Bayer Leverkusen footballers missed out on returning to third place in the Bundesliga.
At the end of the 10th matchday, coach Roberto Pätzold’s team, after taking the lead, lost 1:2 (0:0) to SC Freiburg, who stopped their series of defeats after three defeats and are in seventh place, two places behind Leverkusen.
Top scorer Vanessa Fudalla (65th) gave the guests the lead with her seventh goal of the season. But it didn’t last long: Tessa Blumenberg, who had just been substituted (68th), equalized for the sports club and then became the match winner shortly before the end with her goal (87th).
The injury to Bayer goalkeeper Charlotte Voll (89th) after a collision with her teammate Lilla Turanyi caused concern.
Both clubs continue with the DFB Cup this weekend. In the round of 16, Freiburg will be visiting Wolfsburg on Saturday, and Leverkusen will face newly promoted Hamburger SV the next day.
