Checking 20,000 screws can take a while…

Four weeks after the temporary bridges on Elsenstraße have been put into operation, all connections in the steel structure must be routinely checked to ensure safe operation.

The important traffic connection between Friedrichshain and Treptow therefore had to be completely closed on Friday night and again on Saturday night.

Workers checked each of the 20,000 massive nuts and bolts by hand and with special equipment. If there was play or suspicious noises, a compressed air screwdriver was used to tighten it.
