Djokovic lost the trial and will now return to his homeland

Nine-time and current Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic will not be able to take part in the tournament this year. Court of Australia rejected Serb’s appeal to have his visa canceled by the local authorities.

The court session took place on Sunday, January 16, the day before the start of the Australian Open. The case was heard by three judges – James Alsop, Anthony Besanco and David O’Callaghan.

After the speeches of both sides, Judge Alsop said that in order to consider the case, he and his colleagues it will take more time, and the verdict could be announced tonight or even tomorrow morning.

However, a few hours later, the verdict was announced – Djokovic appeal rejected, he is obliged to pay legal costs and leave Australia as soon as possible.

In addition, according to local law, athlete will not be able to apply for an Australian visa for three years.

Recall that Djokovic was supposed to start defending his title at the Australian Open with a match against compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic, but Novak will be replaced at the tournament by a lucky loser, the 150th racket of the world, Salvatore Caruso from Italy.
