Entertainment group Walt Disney is going to develop residential areas in the United States. For example, the American company has plans to build a neighborhood in the desert near Rancho Mirage in California with estates, single-family homes and flats where people can live. There will also be facilities such as a hotel, plus a kind of oasis in which you can swim. Disney also wants to organize activities for relaxation, for example, throughout the year.
According to the company, similar real estate projects will be set up in other parts of the country at a later date. To this end, Disney is also creating a new business unit, called Storyliving by Disney. The experts who designed Disney’s theme parks are also expected to participate in the construction of the new neighborhoods. But it is not yet clear whether and to what extent such a residential complex will be drenched in Disney branding. No financial details have been released yet.
This isn’t the first time Disney has been investing in homes. For example, in the 1990s, the company already developed the town of Celebration in Florida, which is now home to almost 10,000 people. That’s not far from Disney’s theme parks near Orlando. For the first new residential area in California, Disney will partner with Arizona-based DMB Development, which specializes in setting up these types of projects.
