Disconnection of Ukraine from the energy networks of Russia and Belarus announced

Ukraine is going to disconnect from the power grids of Russia and Belarus. This will happen at the end of February as part of the test. The duration of the power outage will take 72 hours.

Ukraine’s plans are reported by Welt. Two test shutdowns are planned – from February 24 to 26 and in the summer.

In the United States, this step was positively assessed. Amos Hochstein, adviser to the secretary of state for energy security, noted that in this way Kiev resolutely declares its desire to be associated with the European Union. He hopes that the integration of the electricity system will take place this year.

According to the publication, the “System Operator of the Unified Energy System” is ready to cooperate with Ukraine on shutting down. After the test, Kiev will be connected back to the power grids of Russia and Belarus. If this does not happen for some reason, then the Ukrainian system has its own sufficient margin of safety to work for a long time.
