AMSTERDAM – With the unexpected departure of Marc Overmars as director of football affairs at Ajax because of sending cross-border messages to female colleagues, a sporting success story comes to an abrupt end. With almost ten years of service, Overmars was not only by far the longest serving technical boss in Dutch football, but also managed to let Ajax rise far above the competition in that decade.
