A tragic death overshadows this year’s Deichbrand Festival on the North Sea coast. On Sunday (July 20) at 1.30 p.m., a 36 -year -old man from Bremen was found lifeless in the camping area of the festival. The Cuxhaven police inspection confirmed this and initiated a death investigation, since the cause of death has not yet been clarified.

“At first glance, no evidence of violence could be determined,” police spokesman Stephan Hertz told “Bild”. An autopsy in forensic medicine should now bring further insights. Another police officer also commented on “Bild”: “The temperatures were around 30 degrees today. The heat may have played a role.” In addition, it is checked whether the man has consumed drugs or large amounts of alcohol.
Police take stock
The Cuxhaven police published several stories about their official Instagram account, in which she confirmed the death, issued her condolences to the relatives and pointed out that the investigation continued. There are currently no evidence of external debt.
A total of around 60 crimes were registered by Sunday afternoon, including thefts, simple bodily harm and the screeching of services. That is less than in the previous year (2024: approx. 90 crimes up to this point). “As in previous years, it was festival -typical offenses,” said Hertz according to “Bild”.
60,000 visitors: inside at the 20th anniversary
The Deichbrand Festival has been attracting tens of thousands of music fans to Nordholz in the Cuxhaven district for years. This year there were around 60,000 visitors: on the inside to see acts such as Macklemore, Kiz, Timmy Trumpet, Kontra K, Deichkind, Finch and Ski AGGU. The organizers celebrated the 20th anniversary of the event this year.
According to the police, the festival was largely disruptive until the time of the death. In addition to minor incidents and a slight traffic accident on departure, there were said not to have any major incidents.
A comparable death occurred in 2019 when a 26-year-old festival visitor was found lifeless in her tent. Even then, there were no evidence of external debt. The investigation into the cause of death of the 36-year-old continues.
