Defending champion Kamil Stoch ends the Four Hills Tournament prematurely

The defending champion gives up: After disappointing performances, Kamil Stoch left the Four Hills Tournament prematurely. Most recently he was only 59th in qualification.

For defending champion Kamil Stoch, the Four Hills Tournament ended prematurely after disastrous performances. The national ski association PZN announced this decision by the Polish coaching staff on Monday evening. The 34-year-old Stoch had previously only finished 59th in the qualification for the third competition in Innsbruck.

Stoch will return home on Tuesday. “Until a week from now, it will be important for Kamil Stoch to regenerate and then complete motor skills training,” the message said: “He will return to the hill after he has recovered mentally and physically.”

At the first competitions in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Stoch had at least grabbed the qualification, but the first round was the end of the line for the former tour dominator.

The three-time Olympic champion had won the 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2020/21 tours. In 2017/18 he even managed the Grand Slam with victories in all four stations, which only Sven Hannawald had achieved before him in 2001/02.
