It wasn’t going round for Daniil Medvedev. During a tournament in Dubai, the Russian foamed anger – and became insulting.

The Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev is known for his outbursts of anger on the court. Also at the ATP tournament in Dubai, his temperament broke out again when his Dutch competitor Tallon Griekspoor fought his way back. Medvedev won the first set, but Griekspoor secured the second.

Afterwards, Medvedev was shown on Sky on TV, as he rose in the direction of referee Adel Nour. He received a warning for unsportsmanlike and then really talked. Number six in the world built up in front of the referee and screamed several times in a row: “For what?”. Then he asked loudly: “What did I say?”

The referee Nour remained calm and told the tennis player that he already knew why he had received the warning. Medvedev did not cope with it and shouted at the referee something of a “double standard” against Russian players.

The trouble between the player and the referee has a history. As early as February, Medvedev received a punishment from Adel Nour at a tournament in Rotterdam for overlapping time. Even then, the Russian reacted with an outbreak of anger and loud complaints. In the end, he now refused the handshake. Medvedev later admitted that he had gone too far in the heat of the battle and regret his statements.
