President of Kazakhstan signed decrees on the introduction of a state of emergency in the Mangistau region and the city of Alma-Ata. For the period of validity, the sale of weapons, ammunition, alcohol is prohibited. Also under a temporary ban – strikes, peaceful gatherings and public events.

The protection of especially important state and strategic facilities is being strengthened. Individuals will temporarily confiscate weapons and ammunition.

The documents were signed for two weeks – from 5 to 19 January. Decision is made against the backdrop of protests that took place in several cities… They began after the rise in the price of liquefied gas.

The situation was taken under control by the country’s President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. He called on his compatriots to show prudence and not succumb to provocations from inside and outside. He stressed that calls to attack civilian and military departments are illegal.

“This is a crime that will be punished,” he said.

On January 5, the president plans to hold a meeting on the socio-economic situation in the country.

In Alma-Ata, some districts of Nur-Sultan are blocking the Internet, messengers WhatsApp and Telegram do not work, reports “Interfax”
