Antonia knows the Curaçao football team very well. He himself played football for a total of 27 matches between 2016 and 2021 The Blue Wave. He saw the island grow in the field of football. “In my time, the family could only follow the matches via Livescore. Now everything can be seen on TV.”
Four years ago, Antonia played his last international match for Curaçao, but still feels very connected to the team. He still follows everything closely, including all Curaçao’s World Cup qualifiers. “Sometimes I had a match on Saturday, but I sat in front of the TV at four o’clock on Friday night to watch.”
In the festive spirit
The fast winger currently plays football in the fourth division with Ajax Amateurs. Although he is no longer an international player, he is still very close to the players and staff.
“The team feels like family to me. We have almost daily contact. Kenji Gorré (Curaçao player, ed.) had video called me while they were celebrating in the dressing room. We couldn’t even hear each other, but I was in the middle of the celebration for a while.”
