As of: November 19, 2025 8:54 p.m
The VfL Wolfsburg footballers achieved their third win in their fourth game in the Champions League. After the bitter defeat in Lyon, the Lower Saxony team celebrated a deserved 5:2 (3:2) win in the home game against Manchester United on Wednesday evening.
Ella Peddemors (17th, 37th) and Lineth Beerensteyn (45th + 1, 65th), each with a brace, were outstanding for the “Wolves”, who were convincing overall despite their shaky defensive performance. Vivien Endemann scored the fifth goal for the VfL women on her comeback after an injury break (90+6). With nine points from four games, the Bundesliga club has come a big step closer to the goal of the knockout phase.
The Wolfsburg team continues in the Champions League on December 9th (9 p.m., in NDR Livecenter) with the away game at Real Madrid. In the Bundesliga next Sunday (12 p.m.) the away task RB Leipzig awaits the team of coach Stephan Lerch.
Shooting festival with dream goals in the first half
The first half started slowly, but quickly developed into a spectacle. The shock moment caused by the English team’s lead – ex-Wolfsburg player Fridolina Rolfö scored with a header (14′) – was initially forgotten by the hosts with dream goals. Ella Peedemors turned the game around for the Lower Saxony team with a wonderful flick (17th) and a well-placed low shot from 25 meters (37th), which United keeper Safia Middleton-Patel didn’t look good at.
Lineth Beerensteyn set the next VfL exclamation mark with a shot from over 20 meters into the top corner in the first minute of added time. The problem: Wolfsburg’s defense was once again not always solid, allowing Manchester to make it 2-3 just a few seconds later (45th + 2). Janina Minge’s header return to keeper Stina Johannes was far too short, Melvine Malard artistically connected.
Beerensteyn is extremely strong – Popp is out injured
Bitter for the Bundesliga club: Alexandra Popp had to leave the field injured after the break. Lena Lattwein came on for the captain in the intense game (59th). But the Lerch team also had an answer for this setback – in the person of Beerensteyn. The Dutch attacker made it 4-2 for the “Wolves” with a courageous solo (65th).
Manchester now didn’t have much to offer. VfL had the game under control, which also had a happy ending in store with the 5-2 win by the substitutes.
