It’s almost time for the annual toad migration. Toads, frogs and salamanders will cross busy roads in Zoetermeer in the coming months. To prevent the amphibians from ending up under car or bicycle tires, the Animal Protection Society is looking for volunteers who want to give the animals a helping hand.

In the spring, the toads awaken from their hibernation and jump to the waters where they can mate. To do this, they have to cross the Zegwaardeweg and the Tochtpad in Zoetermeer, among other things, and that does not always go well. That is why volunteers are needed to transfer the animals by hand.
Fresh nose and good exercise
The start date of the trek depends on the weather conditions, but is usually at the end of February. The migration takes place in the evening and at night and continues until mid-April. The work will take place between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM. You walk along the Zegwaardeweg or the Tochtpad and help the toads cross the road. When the time comes, the volunteers will receive a message from Animal Protection.
This is how you register
Would you like to contribute? Then make sure you are available one fixed evening a week from mid/late February to mid-April and circle Wednesday evening, February 5, in your calendar, because then there will be an online information evening. If that all works out, please report here On. The toads will thank you!
