Cross-country skiing: Johaug wins gold in the heartbeat final – Olympia

Hennig runs strong race

The best German was Katharina Hennig, who ran a strong race with 28:49.7. For a medal, however, it was not enough for her in fifth place. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old was satisfied with the result: “I’m really happy about the result because it’s what I can do,” said Hennig after the race. The woman from Oberwiesenthal missed the surprising medal coup by almost twelve seconds in the icy wind of Zhangjiakou, but fifth place made Hennig happy. “It gives me hope for everything that comes,” said Hennig – also with a view to the season.

Katherine Sauerbrey was also very satisfied with her first appearance at the Olympics with eleventh place and a time of 29:27.2. “That’s a big milestone that we’ve passed there,” said team manager Peter Schlickenrieder. And Sauerbrey: “I’m super happy. I never expected it to go so well.” Like Hennig, she is confident about the season this Saturday.

Hennig on season: “I think there’s a lot in it”

In 2014, the last Olympic medal for the German cross-country skiing team was won over the 4 x 5 kilometers. Stefanie Böhler, Denise Herrmann, Nicole Fessel and Claudia Nystad won bronze in Sochi. It does not seem impossible that precious metals will also be used in China. “I think there’s a lot in it,” said Hennig. “Everyone has to be in top condition. There are four people involved and not just two or three.”

Over the 10 kilometers, two other Germans, Antonia Fräbel, finished 28th and Laura Gimmler 33rd.
