Corsowijk Hooiweg-Zuid is in danger of missing Bloemencorso Eelde due to lack of space

The participation of corsowijk Hooiweg-Zuid in the Bloemencorso Eelde is at risk. In two weeks the construction of the car should start, but there is no construction location.

“It is a great concern,” says Jacqueline Haijkens, chairperson of the Bloemencorso Eelde. Four weeks ago, Groningen Airport Eelde announced that the location where it had been building for years was no longer available. The airport needs the space as a parking lot.

“Normally they build their tent around April 1, so in two weeks. It’s getting pretty close,” says Haijkens. She is very disappointed that the message came so late. “That is quite shortly before the parade starts. If we had heard that last year, we would have had much more time to look at a new place with the municipality.”

That is now being done. The new fire station became available for construction in the Rond de Wieken parade district, but no location has yet been identified for Hooiweg-Zuid. Haijkens: “We are looking with all our might at what is still possible.”

In addition to sufficient space, electricity and water, a location must also have a hard surface. “Otherwise the car will sink. There are not that many suitable places,” says Haijkens.

The wish is to get closer to the village and a location where they will be welcome again in the coming years. But the most important thing is that something is available in the short term, otherwise Hooiweg-Zuid will have a parade-less year. “We can start building up one or two weeks later,” says Haijkens.
