‘Good morning, we’re not made of sugar!’ organizer Samen voor Nederland wrote on Facebook this morning. The persistent rain front over Rotterdam and a disrupted train run (work, staff shortage due to corona) from the direction of Utrecht may have caused less run-up, but the demonstration ended in a sunny day. The organization announced this afternoon that it would again demonstrate massively on March 6, in The Hague.
Police unions had previously indicated that they would go on strike due to the lack of a new collective labor agreement, but officers were clearly keeping an eye on things.
Earlier demonstrations in the port city (in October and November) got really out of hand – the police had to shoot out of heavy weather and protesters were badly beaten.
