Consultation between municipalities and police about approach to ‘freedom convoy’ | Inland

A meeting is planned at 1 pm between local police zones and municipalities about the truckers’ protest that would go to Brussels on Monday. Chris Selleslagh (Open Vld), the mayor of Grimbergen confirms this. Yesterday, the federal government, the Brussels Prime Minister and the Brussels mayor banned the parade.

The so-called freedom convoy has blown over from Canada. In recent days, social media has called for as many trucks and other vehicles as possible to come to the capital on Monday 14 February from all provinces. The activists do not agree with the corona measures in force.

Yesterday, Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden (CD&V), Brussels Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort (PS) and Brussels Mayor Philippe Close (PS) decided to ban the protest because no application was submitted. Trucks that do come to the capital will be diverted by the police to Parking C of the Heysel.

In order to be able to make sufficient preparations, a digital meeting is planned at 1 p.m. Delegations from the city of Brussels, the federal police and the Brussels police will certainly be present at this event. Selleslagh and the chief of police of the AMOW police zone (to which Wemmel belongs) also attend the meeting. Parking C is located on the territory of Grimbergen and Wemmel.
