Cold shock for Sweden’s biathlon stars

The Swedish biathlon stars are considered medal contenders at the Winter Olympics. When they arrived in China, however, the Scandinavian athletes had to dress warmly.

Sebastian Samuelsson is without a doubt one of the biggest names in biathlon. But even when you’re fourth in the overall World Cup, you’re not guaranteed luxury and comfort, as the Swedish team’s arrival in China showed.

The biathlon competitions will be held at the 2022 Olympics in Zhangjiakou, China. In the city, which is about 100 kilometers from Beijing, the temperatures are currently around minus ten degrees. After his arrival, Samuelsson posted a picture on Instagram showing him in the winter landscape.

The problem: the 24-year-old apparently had to freeze properly in his hotel room. Samuelsson reported that it was only twelve degrees “warm” in his room at night. In the meantime, the biathlon star has been helped with a small heater. The 2018 relay Olympic champion had imagined his start in the Winter Games differently. Finally, Samuelsson had previously posted a picture with the caption “Ready for the Beijing cold”.

Swedish biathlon team is among the top favourites

An Instagram post by Stina Nilsson also shows how cold it is in China at the moment. The 28-year-old took to social media with a frozen face. After all, the Swedish team should be used to the cold.

The Scandinavians are again among the top favorites in the biathlon competitions. The German team, on the other hand, only starts with outsider chances. The first biathlon decision will come at the Winter Olympics on February 5, when the mixed relay will start in the cold of Zhangjiakou.
