Sebastian Coe, head of the World Athletics Association IAAF, wants to investigate the allegations of possible inconsistencies in the allocation of the 2017 World Cup. Coe said on BBC Radio 5 on Sunday that he was promising to look into open questions about the behavior of competitor Qatar. Ed Warner, chief of the British Athletics Association, had previously reported that a senior IAAF official had warned him about it on the eve of the election that Qatari officials could distribute “brown envelopes” to IAAF eligible voters. London was nevertheless awarded the World Cup for 2017, Qatar’s capital Doha a little later for 2019.
