The world ranking of Jannik Sinner had canceled his start in Hamburg at short notice, and yet an Italian plays for the title at the ATP tournament on the Rothenbaum.
The 23 -year -old Flavio Cobolli, one from the “Golden Generation” around the Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti of the same age, meets Andrey Rublev in the final. The Russian plays for his second victory in Hamburg after 2020.
For Cobolli, one of nine Italians among the top 100 players in the world of tennis, it is about his second tournament victory ever. This year he had also triumphed on sand in Budapest. After the final in his comeback tournament in Rome, Sinner had given up participation in Hamburg after three months of doping. Musetti and other top players also canceled their planned starts to concentrate on the French Open in Paris (from Sunday).
Germany’s number one Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, had traveled to his home tournament at short notice, but weakened by an infection in the round of 16.
