Serbian football is in mourning. The coach of a first division team has died – at just 44 years old.

A tragic incident shakes Serbian football: Mladen Žižović, coach of Radnički 1923 first division club, is dead. The Mozzart Bet SuperLiga officially announced this on Monday evening.

The reason for the death of the 44-year-old Bosnian: a heart attack. He suffered this in the middle of his team’s away game in Lučani against FK Mladost. The accident occurred after 22 minutes.

“A great tragedy and an immeasurable loss for Serbian and regional football,” the league wrote about the incident. The game was interrupted, it said. It will continue at a later date once a suitable date has been found.

“We express our condolences to the family and friends of Mladen Žižović. Rest in peace, Mladen,” the league also said.

Žižović only took over from Radnički around two weeks ago. He ended his playing career in 2016. The former midfielder also played twice for his home country Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2008.
