TSG Hoffenheim suffered a surprisingly significant home defeat in the women’s Bundesliga on Friday evening (November 17th, 2023). Coach Stephan Lerch’s team lost 0:3 (0:2) to SGS Essen on the eighth matchday.

In Sinsheim, a double strike within 60 seconds gave the visitors a comfortable lead early on. Marta Cazalla Garcia’s own goal in the 13th minute was followed by Laureta Elmazi’s 2-0 (14th). Ramona Maier (87th) made the final score late.

Due to the defeat, TSG failed to maintain the pressure on the top duo and at least temporarily push cup winners VfL Wolfsburg (16 points) out of second place. The league leader is champions Bayern Munich with 17 points.

Hoffenheim stays ahead of Essen

Despite the defeat, TSG Hoffenheim remains in third place in the table for the time being due to the better goal difference. Essen was temporarily in fourth place. Both teams can be overtaken by Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
