Russian Railways: Chinese Railway lifted the restriction on the acceptance of goods

In December, due to measures to combat COVID, Beijing closed two border crossings to receive all cargo from Russia, in addition to container ones. Removal of restrictions does not apply to untreated wood

From Friday, January 14, Chinese Railways lifted restrictions on the acceptance of goods through railway border crossings. How reported in the press service of Russian Railways, the Russian side received a notification from Beijing.

The restrictions were introduced in early December 2021. Then China, as part of strengthening measures to combat coronavirus, closed the Grodekovo-Suifenhe and Zabaikalsk-Manchuria railway border crossings to receive all cargo, except for container cargo. The ban includes charcoal, timber, building materials, small equipment, clothing and footwear, some foodstuffs and other goods.

According to the holding, in the last month and a half, 6-7 trains with containers were transferred to the side of China through Zabaikalsk. Russian Railways expects to increase traffic volumes with the lifting of restrictions.

Russian Railways banned the import of vodka, beer and cookies to China

At the same time, the lifting of restrictions does not apply to untreated wood, the export of which is limited from January 1 by decision of the government, RZD said. “Practically all wagons with round timber, “stuck” at the border due to non-acceptance by the Chinese side, in agreement with the cargo owners, have already been redirected to new addresses. The timber will be sold on the domestic market,” the company said.
