It was already known that residents of China are closely monitored online. However, the American newspaper has now obtained more than 300 contracts signed by the Chinese authorities since the beginning of last year. This shows that the systems are also used to track foreigners.
Among other things, a list is kept of foreign journalists and scientists who post about Hong Kong and Taiwan. It also keeps track of where else in the world Uyghur is used to communicate. That language is spoken by the Uyghurs, a population group that is oppressed in the Xinjiang region of China.
