Lightning struck a house on Graaf Maurits Lodewijkstraat in Sint-Oedenrode on Tuesday night during a thunderstorm. Residents were startled by a loud bang around half past twelve when lightning struck the chimney of the house.
The stone chimney shattered, debris stretched far into the street. The power also went out in the street. Many local residents came out to see what was going on, according to a 112 correspondent.
The fire brigade and police arrived on the scene. The debris was removed from the roof with a cherry picker. The damage is great.
Code yellow for heavy rain and thunderstorms
The KNMI had issued code yellow for last night due to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms. The showers will move out of our country in the course of Wednesday morning.
