Unrest among the customers of the fish and cheese farmer in Vught. The municipality wants these two market stalls to leave, because it would be unfair competition with the cheese and fish shop in the area. These stores have higher costs and are therefore in danger of going bankrupt. The municipality believes that banning market stalls will prevent vacancies.
While there is unrest and anger among the regular customers of the two market stalls on the Marktveld, fishmonger Thomas Molenaar was particularly panicky when he heard that his permit would probably not be renewed. “I heard it through the grapevine last week. I quickly contacted the municipality, which only provided some text and explanation after days.”

The fishmonger has been at Marktveld every Saturday for ten years. The cheesemonger has been selling his goods in the same place every Friday for 25 years. It is not the case that the municipality wants to get rid of these market vendors completely. They can get a place elsewhere in Vught where there is no cheese or fish shop nearby.
Both market traders have a petition against the municipality’s plan ready for their stall. These will also be eagerly signed this Saturday. The customers are unanimous: those stalls should stay. “There isn’t just one hairdresser in the center of Vught,” a woman asks rhetorically.
Meanwhile, hands are being shaken left and right and hello said. “You can see it,” says another customer. “These market stalls simply make it a meeting place. It brings life to the brewery.”

“There was once an ice skating rink here in the winter and a fair in the summer,” begins another customer. “They are all gone. If those stalls also have to go, it will be a dead end. I wonder if that will make the shopkeepers happy.”
Next week the municipality will talk to the two market traders who are sitting on the kicking chair. The municipality says it understands people who have questions about the whole event. ‘We have built up a strong shopping area, thanks to entrepreneurs who invest here, offer jobs and contribute through property tax and advertising taxes, among other things. We want to keep it that way,” the statement said Facebook page from the municipality of Vught.
“From next week, we will be talking to entrepreneurs to look for a suitable location elsewhere in the village or municipality. We will do this carefully, because we value all entrepreneurs who are active here. Our goal is clear: a future-proof and lively center, with space for permanent shops and itinerant trade,” the message also states.
