Chantal Janzen’s team has shamelessly insulted the respected former newsreader Jan de Hoop. He is done with the TV world for a while. “Very rude.”
Jan de Hoop participated in the very first season of Oh Wat Een Jaar six years ago, when it was still presented by Linda de Mol. It was a very nice experience for the former newsreader of the RTL Breakfast News. When they called him again recently – nowadays Chantal Janzen presents the show – he was quite enthusiastic.
‘We want you so bad!’
However, Chantal’s team has played a huge trick on Jan, which he is quite disappointed about. “Sometimes I find the TV world disrespectful. I was recently asked if I wanted to participate in Oh What A Year. I had done that before and it was a lot of fun. Dress up and kick some ass,” he writes Margriet.
The editor told Jan that he was really the very first famous Dutch person they called, because they really wanted him on the show. “I was allowed to choose from six recording dates. I know from experience that they have told the same story to at least twenty other colleagues.”
Never heard anything again
Jan shared his agenda and then there was silence for quite a while. “As the recordings got closer, I emailed when it was my turn. Then it turned out that I was not the candidate I had dreamed of. If I hadn’t asked myself, I probably would never have heard anything again.”
So disrespectful, Jan thinks. So they placate him by phone with nonsense and then don’t even have the decency to cancel the call. “I know that’s how it works in the TV world, but I still find it very rude. I’m not saying I’ll never do anything on TV again. But then I have to like it and be convinced of the sincerity of the makers.”
Very disappointed
Chantal, who as the figurehead of Oh Wat Een Jaar is of course ultimately responsible for the team that invites guests on her behalf, ensures that Jan is gradually alienating himself from the TV world.
He concludes his column: “In the meantime, let me just mess around in the garden or go cycling with Coen. Fortunately, he really chooses me.”
