Champions League: SC Magdeburg shines again against GOG

As of: November 23rd, 2023 8:30 p.m

At the start of the second half of the Champions League, SC Magdeburg prevailed against the Danish champions GOG thanks to a strong opening quarter of an hour and a brilliant Nikola Portner.

The SCM started the second half of the Champions League group phase with a win. At the Danish champions of 2023, GOG Handbold, the club world champion managed to build on the final phase against Eisenach and took home a 32:25 (17:13) win. The man of the evening was without a doubt SCM keeper Nikola Portner, who made the GOG offensive despair.

Strong as a bear Starting quarter hour

The Magdeburgers went into the game with enough self-confidence and confidence and showed from the start that they didn’t just come to Denmark for fun. After Madsen had quickly put the Danes in the lead, the Magdeburgers took the lead quickly, so that after just ten minutes they had a 7-2 lead.

Nikola Portner made a total of 15 saves in the evening

Afterwards, it was always the brilliant Nikola Portner who infuriated the Danish champions. No matter whether from the backcourt, standing at the circle or from the outside: Portner had an answer to everything and even held on to the ball again and again. The offensive thanked them and repaid them with goals. Felix Claar was always noticeable. The Swede, who came from Aalborg in the summer, became Magdeburger’s most accurate scorer of the evening with seven goals and thus ensured the 17:13 half-time lead, which could have been higher if the SCM had not completed four attacks in a row without a goal.

SCM is not letting up

The club world champions didn’t let anything go wrong in the second round and quickly set the course for victory. Although the Danish duo, consisting of Emil Madsen and Morten Olsen, managed to pose problems for the Magdeburg defense from time to time, the SCM’s accuracy repeatedly prevented any tension from arising. In addition, Portner continued to brilliantly take center stage in the SCM goal and secured a comfortable 32:25 victory at the start of the Champions League second half of the season with a total of 15 saves.
