Carnival uncertainty remains after announced relaxation | 1Limburg

It is almost certain that the cabinet will announce during the press conference on Tuesday that most of the measures will expire on 25 February. But the restrictions for events are not on that list, leaving the uncertainty for regulars.

It is therefore expected that the rule that permanent residents must carry a negative test certificate will remain in force. That rule is also known as 1G.

Event
That is because, according to corona minister Kuipers, carnival is not a ‘catering affair’, but a major event. Carnival mayors are skeptical, because expecting every partygoer to get tested every day is practically unfeasible. Kuipers himself also says that the residual capacity cannot cope with this.

Not enforceable
In addition, enforcing the 1G rule will also be very difficult, now that all major event organizers have already withdrawn. Lately, there has been too much uncertainty for them about the corona rules that would suffer during the feast of parties. Planning a carnival event was therefore too risky. But if there is no clear organization, but there are thousands of carnivalists on the street, who checks whether they are following the rules?

argus eyes
Mayors in the province have no answer and are concerned. They watch the press conference on Tuesday with suspicion, while the three crazy days are getting closer and closer.
