Carlo Boszhard is sometimes terrified that the walking stick he wears in the musical Moulin Rouge refuses service. “It went wrong twice and you don’t want that on television,” he says.

He currently shines night after night in the musical Moulin Rouge: the big television star Carlo Boszhard. He plays the role of night clube owner Harold Zidler and he walks on the stage with a running stick. Two weeks ago, the same character was allowed to open the Musical Awards Gala on television: a great honor for Carlo, he says in Telephotist.

Preliminary stick

Carlo was very scared for one thing during the preparations for the TV broadcasts. “That was my stick with a secret button on it. When I press it, confetti comes out, a wonderful effect. But in the approximately 150 shows I played, it went wrong twice.”

That is a terrible decline, according to the musical actor. “Then you can print what you want, but nothing comes out. It was a shame if that thing just refused during such a live show.”

Stretched

How did that go on television? “Franka van de Techniek fills my stick every night and was tense to hope it would work. I am live, can’t go back and press the button in … BAM! He does it!”

What a relief is that, he continues. “In the corners of my eyes I see Franka making a joy. Mission and a fantastic opening, I am satisfied.”
