The driver lost control of the steering wheel on the slippery road surface in Fontenu (Jura), French broadcaster BFM TV reported. As a result, the car skidded right into Lake Chalain. The vehicle then quickly disappeared into the depths.
One passenger still managed to save himself. He notified emergency services, but their assistance was to no avail. Three minors and one adult were killed in the accident. The youths reportedly all attended the same school in Champagnole.
