Car fire in Grave: man (29) gets a prison sentence for arson

A 29-year-old man from Grave who deliberately set a car on fire in November 2022, has to go to jail for 3.5 months. The court in Den Bosch determined this on Monday. If the man makes another mistake within two years, he will have to go to prison for another six months.

The court considered it proven that on November 13, the man had sprinkled the car in the Oliestraat in Grave with petrol and then set it ablaze. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded eighteen months in prison for the arson, ten of which were conditional.

The car was parked close to a house. The flames spread to the house. The judge found that the resident of Grave had endangered people, among other things. Several people suffered smoke inhalation from the fire, but no one was taken to the hospital.

A resident of the residential complex heard the fire alarm go off and alerted the emergency services. When the fire brigade arrived in the Oliestraat, the fire had already spread to the house. The windows of a second house also collapsed due to the heat of the fire. A car parked across the street also sustained damage.
