Maskell believes Andrew should no longer be called Duke of her city because of the abuse case pending against him. “A very serious accusation has been made against this man of many privileges.”
City councilor Darryl Smalley agrees. “I think the majority of people in York feel the same way about protecting the city’s reputation.”
The title Duke of York is usually given to the second son of the British monarch. Andrew still has that title, but it was announced on Thursday that he has surrendered both his military titles and honorary titles because of the abuse case. “The Duke of York will not continue to exercise public duties and is defending himself in this matter as a civilian,” Buckingham Palace said.
