There will be sufficient budget so that all Groningen residents who are eligible for the 10,000 euro subsidy to improve or make their home more sustainable can apply for it. That writes State Secretary for Mining Hans Vijlbrief to the House of Representatives. The cabinet is allocating an extra 250 million euros for this.

There was so much interest in the scheme on Monday, January 10, that the subsidy ceiling of more than 220 million euros had already been reached during the evening. As a result, about 25,000 households threatened to fish behind the net.

State Secretary for Mining Hans Vijlbrief: “I regret the course of events and immediately said last Monday that I would do my best to see if I could solve this. It is literally for all those Groningen residents who have stood in line for hours without results. in the cold outside or digitally, it is only right that they can also make the application.”

The scheme is the result of administrative agreements between the central government and the region about the reinforcement task. The subsidy scheme is intended for Groningen residents who live in certain postcode areas in the earthquake zone but are not part of the reinforcement program of the National Coordinator Groningen.

Because it was unclear to them for a long time whether they would be included in the reinforcement programme, they often did little or no maintenance on the homes. The subsidy from the government is intended as a quality boost. When applying for the subsidy, however, a number of conditions must be met, such as submitting a price overview of proposed measures.

It is not yet known when this group can also submit their application. State Secretary Vijlbrief wants to make every effort to ensure that this is done as quickly as possible, but also carefully. The experiences of last Monday must of course be included in this.
