Bad surprise for Bruno Fernandes. An action against the Manchester United star caused a stir.

An attack on the co-owner, praise for arch-rivals Liverpool and a strange change announcement: What was wrong with Bruno Fernandes? Anyone who looked at the X-profile of the Manchester United captain on Sunday evening rubbed their eyes in amazement.

Several irritating tweets were spread via his account on Sunday evening. These included, among other things, criticism of the club’s co-owner and praise for arch-rivals Liverpool. Shortly after midnight, Manchester United informed fans that it was a hacker attack and that they should not respond to the posts.

The hacker published several provocative messages on Bruno Fernandes’s X-profile. One of the messages called for “get rid of Ineos”, referring to the club’s controversial co-owner. He also posted a picture of Liverpool’s 7-0 win against Manchester United in May 2023 and announced a move to Macclesfield FC. Another post ended with the words: “At the end of the day I will always be a winner. No matter what happens,” accompanied by a money bag emoji.

Manchester United is currently in a sporting crisis. The club have won just one of their last seven games and were eliminated 2-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup on Sunday. This meant the first elimination in the opening rounds of both cup competitions since the 1981/82 season.

This means Manchester will play a season with just 40 games – the fewest since 1914/15. At the time, the BBC wrote, Ethel Caterham, the world’s oldest person, was only five years old. “Probably even she doesn’t remember it.”
