Brain surgery while awake, downhill coach Fabbri talks about cycling

Simone Fabbri, 42, is from Romagna from Forlimpopoli, where he has a bicycle shop that he runs with his father. At the end of November he had entrusted the message to a video on Instagram: “I was diagnosed with a brain glioma that must be removed. It is an excision in craniotomy, therefore a rather delicate operation, but I expect to be back soon among my bicycles. And so it was head tumor he was removed on 2 December at the Bufalini hospital in Cesena under the direction of doctor Marcello D’Andrea and his team. And now Simone Fabbri explains: “We must not be afraid of these evils and I want people to understand this. I underwent a very special surgery, during which I stayed conscious for 90 minutes, responding to requests from doctors and talking about cycling. It sounds unbelievable, but that’s the way it is. In this way, the recovery will also be faster because I have not lost the temporary use of the word and I immediately started walking again ”.

On 8 March there will be a new resonance and then Fabbri will undergo periodic checks every 4/6 months. “It was an almost mystical experience in which I suffered from the after-effects of an operation that left me 49 stitches in the skull. It was very difficult to sleep, only micro-sleeps, but slowly things settled down and soon I went back to driving and walking in the mountains ”. The bicycle is his life, Simone Fabbri has already returned to work in view of the meeting in Taramello, in the province of Rimini from 3 to 6 February. “It is also a message for the movement, the work does not stop. We have great guys who do amazing things and with whom I want to develop what is planned for the season ”.
