Bologna achieved their fifth victory in a row by beating Verona 2-0 at the Dall’Ara and for at least two days they placed themselves in fourth place alone, awaiting the match between Atalanta and Milan on Sunday. The surprise is that it is not Zirkzee who scores but two midfielders, Fabbian and Freuler, proving the reliability of the machine driven by Thiago Motta.

After less than 5′, a muscle problem put an end to the match for referee Abisso, who after an attempted bandage had to leave the whistle to the fourth official Camplone. In the 27th minute Bologna took the lead with Fabbian, who in the development of a corner had a hand in a cross shot from Orsolini, amid protests from Verona for an alleged charge on Montipò: Sozza at VAR confirmed the goal. In the 36th minute there was a great opportunity to double the lead with a strike from Zirkzee who put it in the middle and found only Orsolini who was out of the way and who put it back in but Montipò made a difference. The same goalkeeper had blocked Ferguson well a few minutes earlier. Even at the end of the first half Ndoye was blocked.

In the second half Baroni removes Swiderski and makes the debut of the Serbian Mitrovic, who with the number ten on his shoulders places himself high on the left. After a good chance by Suslov who touches the far post with a lob after a gift from Skorupski, Bologna doubles their lead in the 20th minute with Freuler, who takes advantage of a sleep by the two yellow-blue centre-backs and sends an invitation from Fabbian into the net from a few steps away. The goal is a blow for Verona who are really struggling to put together an attacking action. Only towards the end, with the new entry, did Mitrovic become dangerous with a restart wasted by Henry.
