The bill on QR codes will be withdrawn from consideration, said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin. Thus, the Duma reacted to the proposal of the government and the United Russia party.

“We will discuss this issue on Monday at the council of the State Duma,” said the speaker of the lower house of parliament. “I’m sure the deputies will support this decision.”

Volodin stressed that the bill needs to be improved.

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova reported that the Cabinet decided to postpone consideration of this bill. According to her, the document was developed taking into account the predominance of the delta coronavirus strain in the Russian Federation. The spread of the new Omicron strain has changed the epidemiological situation, so the law must also take into account the “new challenges”.

The decision was supported by United Russia. Chairman of the General Council of the party Andrei Turchak called it “the only correct one.”

The bill passed its first reading on December 16, 2021.
