Hanna Öberg has been one of the best biathletes in the World Cup for years. Her life partner is hardly inferior to her. The relationship came about after a real love carousel.
The Swedish top biathlete Hanna Öberg has won almost everything there was to win in her career. Olympic gold, World Cup and European Championship titles, plus eight individual victories in the World Cup.
She tries to keep her private life out of the public eye as much as possible, which is a challenging matter considering her life partner. Because he is also in the public eye, practices the same sport as Öberg and is called Martin Ponsiluoma. The 30-year-old is just as successful as his girlfriend. He is one of the world’s best, won Olympic silver in the relay in 2022, and also became world champion in the sprint (2021) and the relay (2024).
The beginning of the relationship between the two model athletes in 2021 was turbulent and made a lot of headlines around the Swedish biathlon team.
Because: Öberg was initially with Jesper Nelin, also a top Swedish biathlete. And Ponsiluoma once loved Fanny Johansson, who was part of the team, so to speak. Suddenly there was a love carousel within the team. Ponsiluoma separated from Johansson and got involved with Öberg, who in turn left Nelin. And the “abandoned ones” Nelin and Johansson also came together, but are no longer there today.
Since then, Öberg and Ponsiluoma have been considered the dream couple in the biathlon circus. The two live and train together in the Swedish biathlon stronghold Östersund. It was only at the beginning of November that the 30-year-old shared private insights into the two of them on the occasion of his girlfriend’s big birthday.
They recently spoke to the Swedish newspaper Expressen about whether they would stay in Ponsiluoma’s hometown forever. Öberg said: “We have Martin’s family in Östersund. But it all depends on what you want to do after your career. I can’t imagine us moving once we both stop, but I don’t think I’ll live there for the rest of my life.”
Her partner: “I think it’s difficult for me to move, we’re very happy in Östersund. And I think Hanna is too. I’ve never felt so comfortable anywhere else.”
