On Sunday, HSV bids farewell to club legend Uwe Seeler – and will play in jerseys in honor of the deceased.
In memory of Uwe Seeler, Hamburger SV will wear a special jersey this Sunday against Hansa Rostock. The home shirt has Seeler’s number 9 on the left sleeve, and the lettering “UNS UWE” on the chest honors the club icon, as the second division team announced on Sunday.
In addition, another small number 9 in white is worked into the shirt numbers of the HSV professionals. The shirts are later auctioned off to benefit the Uwe-Seeler-Foundation. The honorary captain of the German national team died on Thursday at the age of 85.
During the preparation for the first home game (1.30 p.m.) of the new season, the HSV players wear a warm-up shirt in memory of the HSV record scorer. The black T-shirt shows a black and white jubilant photo of Seeler on the chest, while the number 9 and “UNS UWE” are written on the back.
