The basketball players from the VET-Concept Gladiators Trier continue to cause a stir. The Bundesliga newcomers also won their sixth competitive game of the season on Friday evening. After beating Telekom Baskets Bonn 107:90 (58:46), the Moselle town team is in the quarter-finals of the BBL Cup. The outstanding player was point guard Eli Brooks, who scored 24 points and sank six of his eight three-point attempts.
Overall, the surprise team achieved a three-point rate of 50 percent, with 16 of 32 shots finding their target. At the end of the first quarter, coach Jacques Schneider’s (33) team pulled away decisively. The Trier team no longer gave up their lead, and in the final period the hosts increased the result further.
In the league, the Gladiators recently set the start record for a promoted team. Only the Würzburg Baskets in the 2015/2016 season and the Rostock Seawolves (2022/2023) had previously achieved four wins at the start. If Trier also wins at the EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Friday (8 p.m./Dyn), that would mean the sole record.
