Bayer Leverkusen’s Rolfes “doesn’t just want to go back to business as usual”.

Air for Seoane is getting thinner

After the sobering 0: 4 at FC Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen’s sports director Simon Rolfes calls for a quick reaction from the team around coach Gerardo Seoane. “Everyone is challenged and everyone has a responsibility to show a completely different appearance in the Champions League on Tuesday. Everyone is responsible for that,” said Rolfes on Saturday night in Munich’s Allianz Arena.

When asked, Rolfes did not go into detail about the clear commitment made by Bayer club boss Fernando Carro to Seoane. “Everyone is responsible for the fact that we need success in the short term and a different appearance in the short term. That is the crucial thing that we should deal with – and not with other things,” said the ex-professional. The Champions League game at FC Porto is scheduled for Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.

During the guest appearance in Munich, the team “missed everything” and had “no chance from the first minute”, criticized the 40-year-old Rolfes. “You have to work that out. There’s no question that you can’t just go back to business as usual.” Ex-national player Rolfes complained that “the way we played is unacceptable.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Seoane names weaknesses – below average of his predecessors

Coach Seoane had also not glossed over the situation after the clear defeat. Bayer slipped to 16th place and thus arrived in the relegation zone. “The table always shows the current situation – and that has to be taken very seriously,” said the Swiss in the press conference after the game. With just one win and five points from the first eight games of the season, they “underperformed,” said the 43-year-old. Not only was the result against Bayern correct, but there was also a clear difference in performance. The coach described the greatest weakness as “weakness in duels with and against the ball”. Nevertheless, he did not seem discouraged: “We trust our qualities.”

In the end, the weakest start to the season since the introduction of the three-point rule was recorded, only in 1982/83 was the “Werkself” worse after eight games. With 1.60 points per game, Seoane’s average points are now below the rate of his predecessors Peter Bosz (1.79), Heiko Herrlich (1.72) and Roger Schmidt (1.70) – and that with the fourth most valuable squad in the Bundesliga behind Bayern , RB Leipzig and BVB.
